The player is able to see where they’ve been without knowing what comes next. By implementing a material that gets destroyed depending on a radius around the player’s location, the map continuously gets uncovered as the player explores.
The minimap can be zoomed in and out, allowing for the player to see detailed sections of the map as well as how far they have progressed and need to go. This prevents unnecessary backtracking by allowing the player to see where their next checkpoint is, as well as potential passages forward that are around them.
The layout of the map is completely randomized. Each room is preconstructed and then fit into the whole of the map based on the exits of surrounding rooms. This makes each playthrough a different experience, while still offering situations where the player must use the spells at their disposal.
